UGLY IS A HARD PILL
Written by ANDREA J. FULTON
With rave reviews under her belt of “One Drop”, her educational and inspiring stage play with original music, this winter, Andrea J. Fulton’s UGLY IS A HARD PILL will premiere at Theater for the New City, 12/19-1/12. Directed by Broadway veteran performer Leslie Dockery (Sophisticated Ladies, The Tap Dance Kid and Eubie!), who also choreographed Hal Jackson’s Talented Teens International Scholarship Competition for over 10 years, this dark comedy featuring music and movement is set against the backdrop of hetero-sexual, bi-sexual and homo-sexual relationships in modern urban culture.
Offering a hilarious and sometimes emotional glimpse into the lives of those looking for love in all the wrong places, UGLY IS A HARD PILL centers on African American couple Keef and Lena…both are “on the down low” and their love lives are scandalous! But as this couple’s false realities are shattered, sexual orientation proves to be the least of their concerns in this ballsy and moving comedy that reminds us of our ability to impact our own lives in positive and sometimes very ugly ways.
The cast will feature J'rome Andre, Gabrielle C. Archer, Ken Bolander*, Kymbali Craig, Illona S. Dixon, M. James Ealy, Denise Fair-Grant, Allen C. Harris, Jeffrey Holliman, Lori Laing, Leicester Landon*, Mark Lang, Gareth E. Lawson, Virgous Lunceford, Donnell E. Smith. (*Actors Equity Members)
