Theater for the New City and Crystal Field, Executive Director, present the premier of the full length drama “The Tenant” by Bill Donnelly, directed by Vincent J. Balzano, Nov 15th through Dec 2nd.

When a young couple and their pet parrot meet an enigmatic stranger, they are dangerously seduced by her alternative solutions to healing, love and life.

“The Tenant” is about a young couple (30’s) who are superintendents of a tenement building in Midtown, N YC. Even though very much in love, they cannot have children so they have a pet, a talking parrot named Romeo played by an actor. A Korean woman, Lucky Star, (also in her 30’s), who has no furniture but who understands life, moves into the building and the story is about the four characters’ evolving relationships.

“The Tenant” has had three staged readings: the Dramatists Guild, 2006; The Sage Theater, Midtown, NYC, 2007: and the Bickford Theater at the Morris Museum, NJ, 2009. The play was chosen by the Dramatists Guild in 2010 with seven others in a national competition for the playwright to attend a special boot camp on the production side of playwriting. In 2011, the play had a very successful four week workshop at the Crown Theater, The Producers’ Club, W. 44th St., NYC.
