Go Green with THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY!

Help TNC Raise Money for our new

GREEN ROOF!!!

GREEN ROOF
A GROWING TREND!

The Plan
Theater for the New City is headed into a new phase!  We’re planning a series of exciting renovations, including a new art gallery and café, a new façade on the building, a new and improved Cino Theater, a film and recording studio--and a GREEN ROOF.

What’s a Green Roof?
A green roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and soil, or a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. Some green roofs also include solar panels or other forms of “green technology.”

For more information, please visit our website, http://www.theaterforthenewcity.net/green.htm

Why Go Green?
Theater for the New City cares about the environment. Widespread adoption of green roof technology in NYC will ultimately address a variety of environmental and human health concerns.  It will improve air quality in the neighborhood and conserve a good deal of electricity.

Why TNC?
As a community-based non-profit organization, Theater for the New City is uniquely qualified to engage a variety of sectors on this project.  By spearheading this Green Roof initiative, TNC will continue to serve as a Beacon to the community and as a model for other institutions to follow

How Can I Learn More?
There is a rich body of information to be found on Green Roofs and other environmental resources.  You can visit your local library or bookstores to read up on what’s new, or take your eco-curiosity to the World Wide Web!  Check out great websites like www.greenroofs.com or www.LiveRoof.com to gather lots more info on the growing trend.

How Can I Help?
We can’t make the Green Roof dream a reality without you.  TNC has gotten the ball rolling by contacting the Mayor, the Department of Cultural Affairs, Cooper Union, and the environmental science community to assist us in navigating the process.  To keep the momentum going, we need your help.

Green Your Government!

Give Your Green!
Making the Green Roof a reality will require considerable funds.  The estimated cost of creating a Green Roof is in the hundreds of thousands! Though we are in the process of procuring sizeable grants from NYSCA and the Herman Goldman Foundation, your financial donations are still very much needed and welcomed. What will your money go towards?

  • Architectural design, master plan, and schematics
  • Consultation with green roof specialists
  • Mechanical and electrical design
  • Solar panel consultation
  • Vegetation and other building materials
  • Construction
  • Maintenance
  • Incidental Costs

The good news is that, once installed, a Green Roof will conserve energy and ultimately cut costs.  Please help us help the planet!
