Theater for the New City, the Harlem Repertory Theater and the Yip Harburg Foundation present FLAHOOLEY Directed and Choreographed by Keith Lee Grant
Puppet designer Sylvester Cloud has created a remarkable doll called Flahooley. As Flahooley is about to be unveiled at the company's big Christmas release to the board of directors -- the meeting is interrupted and chaos and delightful complications ensue. This zany and highly entertaining musical comedy is filled with puppets, video, singing, dancing and a score by Sammy Fain and lyrics/book by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy.
It is important to note that although FLAHOOLEY is an enchanting and entertaining show for audiences of all ages -- it also addresses serious political, social and economic questions. This groundbreaking allegorical musical fantasy was developed by Yip Harburg as a reaction to Joe McCarthy’s reign in the 1950s when the shameful “ blacklisting” of American citizens was occurring throughout the United States.
