Theater for the New City, the Harlem Repertory Theater and the Yip Harburg Foundation present
A World Premiere of a New Adaptation of the Forgotten Musical Gem

FLAHOOLEY

Directed and Choreographed by Keith Lee Grant

Although you may not know this forgotten musical gem, everyone knows the show's creator and lyricist, Yip Harburg, the creative force and lyricist behind the landmark Broadway musical FINIAN’S RAINBOW and the beloved and ever-popular film, THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Puppet designer Sylvester Cloud has created a remarkable doll called Flahooley. As Flahooley is about to be unveiled at the company's big Christmas release to the board of directors -- the meeting is interrupted and chaos and delightful complications ensue. This zany and highly entertaining musical comedy is filled with puppets, video, singing, dancing and a score by Sammy Fain and lyrics/book by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy.

It is important to note that although FLAHOOLEY is an enchanting and entertaining show for audiences of all ages -- it also addresses serious political, social and economic questions. This groundbreaking allegorical musical fantasy was developed by Yip Harburg as a reaction to Joe McCarthy’s reign in the 1950s when the shameful “ blacklisting” of American citizens was occurring throughout the United States.
